Christian writing prompts for adults

Whether you’re new to journaling or a seasoned writer, our free Christian writing prompts for adults can help you reflect, grow, and connect with your faith.

Writing is a powerful way to explore your relationship with God and to share your testimony with others.

From faith journal ideas to devotional journal prompts, putting pen to paper (or hands to keyboard) can help you reflect, insight, clarity, and peace.

We share new Christian writing prompts in our newsletter, and we’ve shared some of our more popular journaling ideas below to get you started.

If you’ve ever stared at a blank page and wondered what to write, you’re far from alone! At Faith Storytellers, we believe in working with your natural storytelling abilities. For example:

  • Story Builders start from scratch; we often need a place to start to prompt inspiration.

  • Story Carvers must whittle down what might otherwise be an overwhelming amount of information.

Which are you? And how can you work with your natural writing and storytelling style to start crafting your story?

5 Christian journal prompts

Each month, we share spiritual journal prompts like these in our newsletter. Here are a few free Christian writing prompts for adults, ones that we’ve shared in past newsletters that we think you’ll enjoy.

A snapshot in time: Pull out a photo album and select an image. Pray about the photograph: What was happening, who was there, and ask God how he was loving you in that moment.

  • An answer to prayer: Reflect on a moment that seemed like more than a coincidence. How did God orchestrate events or circumstances to intervene in you or someone else’s life.
A moment to ponder: Recall a time when someone said something that made you think and reflect. How did this word, encounter, or conversation change your faith?

  • God’s timing: Reflect on a time that seemed to be more than a coincidence. What happened that felt divinely inspired, and how did you know God through his divine timing?

  • God’s whispers: Ask God to share a small, small moment that helped you see him in a new or deeper way. How did the small movements, the gentle breeze of God’s ways, tug at your heart?
